There’s more to being well than just working out and consuming healthy meals. Taking a global approach to your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is critical for your overall health. We like to call this self-care. Here are some of our favorite practices for self-care.
We may be following social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t able to connect with others! Set up a virtual coffee break or happy hour with your friends. Keep it positive and tell each other something good that happened to you lately. Think about plans for when you can be together again and how great it will be to give them a huge, warm hug. Together we are better prepared to handle this and can support each other. That’s what friends should do!
Follow a Flexible Routine
Craft an agenda for your yourself but let there be some flexibility. For one thing, wake up around the same time in the morning and head to bed around the same time at nighttime. Outline your intentions for the day and slate out your work assignments, but give yourself some time for your daily workout, a walk outside, or to read your favorite book. Don’t be too severe with your schedule that you create extra stress. Finding a balance between procedure and relaxation will help you have a more productive and gratifying day.
Gratitude is good for anyone. The more gratitude we display to others during uncertain times, the more cheerful and stronger we become. Offer others grace. One of our most treasured ways to carry out gratitude is to call a loved one and let them know how much you love them. A personal note is also an exciting and unexpected surprise that is guaranteed to make a person’s day.
There is nothing better than spending time out of the house, breathing the fresh air. Take a walk with your dog every day after lunch. Wave hello to your neighbors (from a good distance) and find out how they’re feeling. Stay in the sunlight for 10 minutes and start taking deep breaths—you will feel so much better!
Just because we can’t go out together at our favorite places doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a good meal! Try a new method for dinner and make your meals an event. Dance to your favorite music, get the whole family in on it, and have a good time with it!
